  5. Question 5. Alcohol and other drugs: Alcohol, standard drinks and BAC4 marks

Outline FOUR factors that affect a person’s blood alcohol concentration (BAC).

Show model answer and marking criteria

Model answer. BAC rises with the number and strength of drinks (more standard drinks), and with drinking quickly, because the liver can only remove about one standard drink per hour. Drinking on an empty stomach makes alcohol reach the blood faster. Body size and sex also matter: smaller people, and females on average, have less body water, so the same drinks give a higher BAC.

    A full-marks answer:

    • Number and strength of drinks (standard drinks)
    • Speed of drinking
    • Food in the stomach
    • Body size, sex or individual factors (e.g. health, medication)

    50 ÷ 3.6.

How to study Year 10 PDHPE

PDHPE questions usually ask you to apply an idea to a situation. Name the skill or strategy, then explain how the person in the scenario would use it and why it helps. Use the key terms from your notes, and give a specific example rather than general advice.

In Lock in, every PDHPE topic has short notes, then flashcards that use spaced repetition: rate each card Again, Hard, Good or Easy and it comes back just before you would forget it. Practice questions come in three levels, Foundation, Standard and Complex. Three right in a row moves you up a level, and two wrong moves you back.

Press Study for me and the app builds a 15 to 20 minute session from the cards that are due, the mistakes that are due and questions on your weakest topics. Anything you get wrong comes back 1, 3 and 7 days later until you get it right. When an exam is close, sit a timed practice exam with AI marking.
