AI study notes for uni
Turn lecture slides into flashcards and practice questions. Add your uni and units, drop in your slides or notes, and Lock in builds a study guide, flashcards, quizzes and marked written questions for each unit. Then it helps you learn them.
No card. Full access for 24 hours.
How units work
- Add your uni and units. Pick University as your year, choose your uni, type your course, and add this term’s units by code and name. Each unit becomes its own subject.
- Drop in lecture slides or notes. Open a unit and add a week’s slides as a PDF, a text file, or pasted notes. Long files are split into parts and read one at a time.
- Get a study guide, flashcards and quizzes. The AI writes a study guide with the key points of each section, 15 to 30 flashcards on terms, theories, formulas and methods, 10 to 20 multiple choice questions, and 3 to 6 written questions with marking criteria.
- Practise and get marked. Your decks join Study for me, spaced repetition and your mistakes list. Write answers to the written questions and the AI marks them against the criteria.
Built from your notes, not ours
Lock in doesn’t have pre-written content for uni units. Every study guide, flashcard and question is built from the slides and notes you add, so it follows your lecturer’s course rather than a generic textbook. A unit stays empty until you add something to it.
The AI is told to use only what’s in your material and to pitch it at first-year university level. Add one lecture or topic at a time and you get a deck per week that you can review all term, and before exams.
AI can make mistakes. Check the study guide and answers against your lecture notes, and trust your notes and your lecturer if something doesn’t match.
What you can add
- Lecture slides as PDF. Export from PowerPoint, Keynote or Google Slides.
- Text PDFs and text files (.txt or .md), like readings and your own typed notes.
- Pasted text from anywhere: a transcript, a tutorial sheet, a summary.
- Photos and scanned pages work when the full Claude AI is available, which isn’t the case in every version of the app.
PowerPoint and Word files aren’t read directly yet. Very long documents are cut off after several parts, so add one lecture or chapter at a time.
Questions
- Does Lock in have content for my unit?
- No unit content is pre-written. Each unit is built from the lecture slides and notes you add, so it covers exactly what your lecturer taught, at first-year university depth.
- Can I upload lecture slides?
- Yes, as a PDF: export your slides from PowerPoint, Keynote or Google Slides as a PDF and drop it in. Text PDFs, text files and pasted notes always work. Photos and scanned pages need the full Claude AI, which isn’t available in every version of the app. PowerPoint and Word files aren’t read directly yet.
- Which universities does it work with?
- Any. When you set up, start typing your uni and pick it from the list of Australian universities, or type any other name. Then add your course and up to 12 units, each with a code and a name, like COMP1511 Programming Fundamentals.
- How does the marking work?
- Each written question has one marking point per mark and a model answer, both built from your notes. Write your answer and the AI marks it against those points and says what was missing. AI can make mistakes, so check anything that looks wrong against your lecture notes.
- How much does it cost?
- Every new account gets one free day with everything unlocked, no card needed. After that, a pass is A$5 for a week or A$20 for three months, paid once, nothing renews. AI requests count towards a daily limit on your pass.
