Practice exams with AI marking
Sit a timed practice exam for any subject from Year 7 to uni. Each paper is built fresh, marked the moment you finish, and every written answer comes back with a mark and a note on what to fix.
Why practice exams work
Rereading notes feels productive, but it mostly tests whether something looks familiar. Answering exam questions without your notes, against a clock, tests whether you can actually produce the answer. That is what the exam asks you to do.
A practice paper also shows you things a flashcard can’t: how long a 4 mark answer takes to write, which topics you leave until last, and where you lose marks for leaving out working or examples.
How a Lock in practice exam runs
- Pick a subject. Every subject has its own practice paper, mixing multiple choice, short answers and longer written responses from across the course.
- Work against the clock. The timer starts with reading time, then counts down while you work, the way it runs on the day.
- Get marked straight away. Multiple choice and number answers are marked instantly. Written answers are marked by AI against each question’s criteria.
- See what to fix. Every written answer shows the mark, the points you made and the points you missed, next to a model answer.
Papers are built fresh each time, and many Maths and Science questions are generated with new numbers, so you can sit another paper the next day without memorising the last one.
What the AI marking checks
Each written question has marking criteria, about one mark per point, and a model answer. The AI awards marks only for what you actually wrote. For a History question like “Describe working conditions for children in British textile mills”, it checks for long hours, dangerous conditions and harsh discipline, and tells you which you left out.
AI marking can make mistakes. Treat the mark as a guide to how your answer compares with the criteria, and check anything surprising against your notes or with your teacher.
After the exam
Every question you got wrong goes on your mistakes list and comes back 1, 3 and 7 days later. Your topic scores update, so Study for me spends your next session on the topics the paper showed were weakest. The study plan also puts a practice paper on the day before each exam.
To see the kind of questions on the papers, browse free samples with answers on the subjects page, such as Year 9 Science practice questions or Year 10 English practice questions. More on the app itself: AI study app for Years 7–12 and uni.
Questions
- Are Lock in practice exams the same as real school exams?
- No. They are practice papers written to cover the same topics and question types, not past papers from your school. Use them to practise timing and find weak topics.
- Which subjects have practice exams?
- Every subject in the app has a practice exam: Maths, English, Science, History, Geography and PDHPE, for the years where that subject is available.
- How is the AI marking done?
- Each written answer is marked against the question’s marking criteria and model answer, and you get a mark with a note on what was missing. AI marking can make mistakes, so check surprising marks with your teacher.
- Can I do more than one practice exam?
- Yes. Papers are built fresh each time, so you can sit as many as you like while your pass is active.
