Turn your notes into a study guide

Paste your class notes or drop in a PDF, and Lock in’s AI turns them into a study guide, flashcards, a practice quiz and written questions with a marking guide. Then it helps you learn them.

How it works

  1. Add your notes. In the app, open a subject and paste your notes, or drop in a PDF or text file. You can name the deck, or let the AI name it.
  2. The AI reads them. It uses only what’s in your notes and writes everything in its own clear words. Long notes are split into parts, which takes up to a minute each.
  3. Study the deck. Read the guide, then the flashcards, quiz and written questions join Study for me, spaced repetition and your mistakes list, like every built-in topic.

What you get from one set of notes

  • A study guide with two to five topic sections and the key points of each.
  • 10 to 20 flashcards on key terms, people, dates, causes and effects.
  • 8 to 15 multiple choice questions written like a school exam, each with a one-line explanation. For maths notes, they need working out.
  • 2 to 4 written questions, each with one marking point per mark and a full-marks model answer, so the AI can mark your answers against them.

It’s the same AI marking and practice you get on Lock in’s built-in courses for Maths, English, Science, History, Geography and PDHPE, but on your own notes, so it matches exactly what your class covered.

Why make a study guide from your own notes

Your teacher’s notes are what your test is written from. Turning them into questions is the part that takes time, and it’s also the part that works: answering questions without looking is far better practice than rereading.

Lock in does that conversion for you in a few minutes, then keeps bringing back the cards and questions you get wrong until they stick.

Limits

AI can make mistakes. Check the study guide and answers against your notes, and ask your teacher if something doesn’t match.

  • Photos and scanned pages need the full Claude AI, which isn’t available in every version of the app. Text PDFs, text files and pasted notes always work.
  • Word documents aren’t supported yet. Copy the text and paste it in.
  • Very long documents are cut off after several parts. Add one chapter at a time.
  • AI requests count towards the daily limit on your pass.

Questions

How do I turn my notes into a study guide?
Open Lock in, go to your subject and add your notes: paste the text, or drop in a PDF or text file. The AI reads them and writes a study guide with key points, flashcards, multiple choice questions and written questions with a marking guide, which become a deck you can study straight away.
What files can I use?
Pasted text, PDFs with selectable text, and text files (.txt or .md). Photos and scanned pages also work when the full Claude AI is available, which isn’t the case in every version of the app. Word documents aren’t supported yet, so copy the text and paste it in.
Can AI make flashcards from my notes?
Yes. Each deck gets 10 to 20 flashcards on key terms, people, dates, causes and effects, and they use spaced repetition like every other card in Lock in.
Is the study guide accurate?
The AI is told to use only what’s in your notes and to write it in its own words, but AI can make mistakes. Check the guide against your notes, and if something looks wrong, trust your notes and your teacher.
How long can my notes be?
Long notes are split into parts and each part is read separately, then combined into one deck. Very long documents are cut off after several parts, so for a whole textbook, add one chapter at a time.
Is it free?
It’s included with every pass, and with the free day every new account gets. A pass is A$5 for a week or A$20 for three months, paid once.
