Who we are
Lock in (“we”, “us”) is a small independent online study service run from Australia, available at lockinstudy.site and as desktop apps for Mac and Windows. We aim to handle personal information in line with the Australian Privacy Principles.
Seller: Lock In, an independent online study service run from Australia. Lock In doesn’t have an ABN and isn’t registered for GST. Contact: hello@lockinstudy.site.
What we collect
- Account details. Your email address and, if you sign in with Google, the name and profile picture Google shares. Sign-in is handled by Google’s Firebase Authentication.
- Study data. Your year group, progress, flashcard schedules, mistakes, scores, exam dates, study plan, settings, and the nickname and avatar you choose. This is stored with your account so it syncs between devices, and also kept on your device.
- Group data. If you join a private group, its members can see your nickname, avatar, XP and streak.
- AI requests. When you use AI marking, Explain my mistake, Ask AI, writing feedback or turn your own notes into a deck, the text involved (such as the question, your answer, the relevant notes or the notes you add) is sent through our server to Anthropic to generate a response. Decks you make from your notes are saved with your account. We count how many AI requests each pass makes per day, to apply the daily limit.
- Pass and payment details. When you buy a pass we record the plan, its expiry date and a secure, scrambled copy of your key. Stripe handles the payment and shares with us that it succeeded and basic order details. We never see or store your card details.
- Technical data. A small cookie that identifies your browser, so the free day can’t be claimed over and over from one browser. Our hosting providers keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security.
We don’t use advertising cookies or ad trackers, and there are no ads in the app.
How we use it
- To run your account, sync your progress and unlock the passes you’ve paid for.
- To generate AI feedback and answers when you ask for them.
- To prevent abuse, such as repeated free days or shared keys.
- To answer you when you contact us.
We don’t sell personal information, and we don’t use it for advertising.
Students under 18
Lock in is made for students from Year 7 to uni, so many people using it are under 18. We collect only what’s needed to run the app. If you’re under 18, ask a parent or guardian before buying a pass. Parents and guardians can contact us to see or delete their child’s information.
Please don’t put personal details, such as your full name, address or school, into AI questions or answers. They aren’t needed for feedback.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and study data while your account exists. If you ask us to delete your account, we delete it and its study data within 30 days. We may keep a minimal record of passes (the plan, expiry and scrambled key) for as long as we need it for refunds, fraud prevention and our legal obligations. Stripe keeps payment records as the law requires.
Your choices and rights
You can ask us to give you a copy of your information, correct it or delete it. Email hello@lockinstudy.site from your account’s email address so we can confirm it’s you. We’ll respond within 30 days.
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, tell us first and we’ll try to fix it. You can also contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
Security
Data is sent over encrypted connections, sign-in is handled by Firebase, and pass keys are stored in scrambled form. No online service is perfectly secure, so keep your password and keys to yourself.
Changes and contact
If we change this policy, we’ll update the date at the top of this page, and for significant changes we’ll let you know in the app. Questions: hello@lockinstudy.site.
