For parents
Lock in is a study app for Years 7–12 and uni. It gives your child short notes, flashcards, practice questions and timed practice exams for their year, and uses AI to mark written answers. Here is what that means in practice, including the limits.
What your child gets
Lock in covers every core subject from Year 7, full Year 11–12 courses (Maths, English, Biology, Chemistry, Modern History, Business Studies, Legal Studies and PDHPE), and any other subject or uni unit built from your own notes, with the topics written for each year group. Your child picks their year when they sign up, and the app sets up their subjects.
- Notes and flashcards for every topic, with spaced repetition so cards come back before they’re forgotten.
- Study for me, a 15 to 20 minute session built from their weakest topics and the mistakes that are due.
- Timed practice exams for each subject, which can also be printed with a marking guide.
- An exam countdown and study plan that puts a practice paper the day before each exam.
It’s built to make students answer questions themselves, not to write assignments for them.
How the AI is used, and its limits
The AI in Lock in is powered by Claude, made by Anthropic. It does three jobs: it marks written answers against each question’s marking criteria and model answer, it explains why an answer was wrong, and it answers questions about the topic your child is studying.
The rest of the app, including the notes, flashcards, multiple choice marking, scheduling and study plan, doesn’t use AI.
AI can make mistakes. A mark from Lock in is a guide to how an answer compares with the criteria, not an official result. If feedback looks wrong, your child should check it against their notes or ask their teacher.
To produce feedback, the text of the question, your child’s answer and the relevant notes are sent to Anthropic. There’s a daily limit on AI requests for each pass.
Privacy and safety
- Accounts are made with Google sign-in or an email and password, through Google’s Firebase.
- Study progress, such as flashcard schedules, mistakes, scores and exam dates, is stored with the account so it syncs between devices.
- No ads in the app, and we never sell personal information.
- Payments are handled by Stripe. Lock in never sees card details.
- Leaderboards are private. If your child joins a group with a code from a friend, members of that group can see their nickname, avatar, XP and streak. Nothing is public.
You can ask us to see or delete your child’s data at any time. The privacy policy has the full detail.
PDHPE content
PDHPE topics are written for each year group and stick to what students cover at school at that age: identity and resilience, respectful relationships and consent, online safety, mental health and help-seeking, drugs and alcohol with a harm-minimisation focus, first aid, healthy eating, fitness and movement skills.
Content is factual and age-appropriate, and points students towards trusted adults and support services. You can see the exact topic list on the Year 7, Year 8 and Year 9 PDHPE pages.
How to buy a pass for your child
- Let them try the free day. Your child makes an account and picks their year. Every new account gets one free day with everything unlocked, with no card needed.
- Choose a pass. A$5 for one week, or A$20 for three months. Buy it on the pricing page, or from inside the app while your child is signed in.
- Pay with Stripe. It’s a one-time payment in Australian dollars. Nothing renews.
- Pass on the key. A key appears as soon as you’ve paid. If you bought inside the app, it’s already saved to your child’s account. If you bought on the website, your child enters the key in the app once, and it’s saved to their account from then on.
Keep the key somewhere safe until it’s entered. If anything goes wrong, email hello@lockinstudy.site.
Questions from parents
- Is there a subscription?
- No. Passes are one-time payments of A$5 for a week or A$20 for three months, in Australian dollars. Nothing renews automatically, and there’s nothing to cancel.
- Are there ads in the app?
- No. There are no ads in the Lock in app, and we don’t sell personal information.
- Can my child use it without a pass?
- Every new account gets one free day with everything unlocked. After that, a pass is needed to keep using the app. The sample questions on this website stay free.
- Can the AI give wrong answers?
- Yes. AI marking and AI answers can make mistakes. Lock in shows a mark as a guide, not an official result, and encourages students to check anything surprising with their notes or teacher.
- Can I get a refund?
- Yes, if you ask within 48 hours of buying and the pass hasn’t been substantially used. Email hello@lockinstudy.site. See the refund policy.
- How do I delete my child’s account?
- Email hello@lockinstudy.site from the account’s email address, or tell us the address the account uses, and we’ll delete the account and its study data.
Let them try a day first.
Every new account gets one free day with everything unlocked. If it helps, a week is A$5 and a term is A$20, paid once.
